Studio portrait: palette knife

Paul Behnke stopped by the studio today. The ensuing conversation touched on many things art-related, including the items that painters tend to have around them for a long time.
I have a few things in my studio that I've had for a very long time, one of them being this palette knife. I've probably had this one for at least 20 years. The lumps are the build-up of acrylic paint over time. This is actually the second coating of paint that this palette knife has had. I peeled away most of the first coating maybe 11 years ago and let it go again.
The funny thing about this knife is that I don't use it in the application of paint to supports; I use it solely to mix paints.

i'm amazed you can still use that paint-laden knife. :)
it does make a lovely image in its own right.
by the way, nice new blog design!

Hi Tim...love that palette knife. Mine looks pretty similar although not quite as crusty. I'm getting there though!

Maybe it's because of your post title "studio portrait", but I see a distinct face in the third photo. I really like it too! Do you see it?
(I've got lots of paint encrusted dowels that look like this.)

Stephanie: Yes, it's a nice little working sculpture> I'm glad that you like the new look. I noticed to take advantage of the new 'design' feature that Blogger has now.

Abby & Pam: Thanks!

Marie: I can make out something of a face. Glad you like it.
