Hiro Sakaguchi interviewed on Art:21

Hiro Sakaguchi, "Pulling Tank," 2007. Graphite and watercolor on paper, 9” x 12”.

I was just wandering around the "Art:21" site and found this new interview with Philadelphia artist, educator, and curator, Hiro Sakaguchi:

Hiro was one of the few people
that I got along with at UARTS,
and then after graduation I
enjoyed bumping into him around
town. I don't maintain any
friendships very well consid-
ering the peripheral components
of my mental health condition
so I have not been able to
really get deeper in relation-
ship with any artist in Philly.

His work is not avant garde or
edgy but it is fresh enough
that it deserves to be seen,
not to mention just being good
as an ,"art object".

Like yourself he seems to be
an ,"honest painter", who is
not messing around, or trying
to be famous.

There are some people who will
paint even if no one notices.

That is the sign of a real
artist...IMHO.
