As mentioned in yesterday's post, here are four more paintings whose formal elements diverge from other things that I'm working on. While these paintings look drastically different in style from some of my other recent works, the geometric aspects mirror my explorations of hard-edged, almost minimal paintings dating back ten years. The mirroring is where the similarities stop. In these new paintings, I've taken a new-found fascination that I have with geometric forms and placed them in more conventional figure-ground compositions. In addition, I'm also looking for engaging ways of handling formal relationships between colors, edges, surfaces, foreground/background, etc...

I like these A LOT, Tim! It never hurts to dip back into your past work and see it with new eyes. I think the contrast between the softer, more detailed ground and the hard(er)-edged forms makes for a very interesting contrast and talks about space in a very different way. Happy delving in this new/old direction!
Hi Nancy, thank you, very much for your comments. I'm always looking back to move forward. It took me a while to let myself go down this road with conviction, while also continuing with my other work simultaneously, but once I saw some of the results, I had to continue.
I am a bit jealous of your work
here because I came up with
similar ideas when I was doing
some drawings with computer
graphics software. Flat blocks
or shapes of color superimposed
over active backgrounds.
It should teach me that other
people come up with the same
stuff that I come up with...
